An iconic Canadian architectural monument located on a spacious 67-acre plot on the ocean in the southern part of Vancouver Island, a short drive from the capital of British Columbia, Victoria. The triumphant main residence, marked by grandiose modern lines, according to award-winning designer Marco Simsik, "steadily intertwines" with his residence in the heart of one of Canada's most endangered natural ecosystems - the Garry Oak Savannah.
Winner of the Canadian Architect's Award in 2003 and the Lieutenant Governor's Award in 2008, the 10,700 sq ft main residence is built on consoles on concrete reinforcement, rooting a structure free of critical tree root zones. The floors branching along the canyon and carrying spent hydrothermal seawater are framed by exterior walls of engraved glass, thanks to which this innovative retreat blurs the boundaries of nature and shelter.
A sharp structural fold surrounds the outdoor pool and the hot tub area that separates the master and guest rooms. Dynamically illuminated by strategically placed exterior and pedestrian windows, reflections from the ocean and river canyon dance through solid wooden floors and travertine walls.
Panoramic views of 1,400 linear feet of coastline and private beach are enhanced by spectacular ocean views backed up by the rugged Olympic mountain range. A boat house integrated into the structure, with a mechanical descent directly to the sea makes the installation of a sail a breeze, while worldwide access to home automation control allows residents to stay connected from afar. In addition, there is a caretaker's residence, a garage with a hydraulic elevator and a tennis/basketball court on the gate.
