Goslar is a city with a thousand—year history, located at the foot of the Harz mountain range. The population is more than 50,000 people. It is a popular tourist destination where people from all over Europe go to be treated with mineral waters, as well as to visit numerous attractions. The city was first mentioned in 922. According to legend, the city of Goslar owes its appearance to the knight Ramma, who, by order of the king, was looking for game, but found silver. Copper and coal mining begin here, and the development of Goslar started from this. The mountain and the mine bear his name (Rammelsberg — Mount Rammel). The city was almost not damaged during the Second World War, so houses and streets from those times have been preserved here. Since 1992, the historical center of Goslar, the Rammelsberg mine, the Upper Harz water intake system that supplied it with electricity in the pre—industrial era, has been a unique engineering facility consisting of 107 ponds, 310 km of canals and 31 km of natural reservoirs, the Valkenried Monastery and the historic Samson mine in the neighboring St. Andreasberg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
