Along with Portofino, Santa Margherita is the crown jewel of Italian Riviera. By the sea, it has an efficient touristic port, with a valuable and dynamic waterfront, enhanced by palm trees. The residential area is surrounded by the sea and hills covered in Mediterranean vegetation (maritime pines, chestnut trees, olive groves) where it is easy to find gardens and villas with the sea view over the so-called “Dolphin Gulf”, that connects Santa Margherita Ligure with Portofino. Its crystal-clear waters, awarded with the European Blue Flag, attract tourists not just for sea bathing, but also for its particular seabed habitat composed by Posidonia Oceanica meadows, coral reefs and sea caves, which are homes of several fish species. The historical center is full of history and art, appreciated for evening walks, and hosts the finest restaurants and the most exclusive boutiques. Along the coast it is easy to run into spectacular villas, here from the ancient times: “Convento della Cervara” from 1300, “Villa Durazzo” from 1600 and many other private exclusive houses, built centuries ago (many of them are liberty) or in the present days. Their formal gardens benefit from a unique micro- climate and host pines, holm oak, arbutus, wildflowers and several other plant species. The typical cuisine is renowned for prawns and white wine, both delicious. Thanks to its lucky position, as the one of all Riviera, it is possible to reach Montecarlo in just two hours and half, or the renowned ski resorts Courmayeur and Chamonix in three hours, and the Versilia coast with its famous clubs in just one hour. Chiavari is just half an hour far from Genoa Airport.
