Bulgaria wants to simplify issuing tourist and work visas

  • 5
The Bulgarian government has considered the possibility of facilitating entry for foreigners.

Details

The Bulgarian government, under the direction of the Minister of Tourism, Evtim Miloshev, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Angelieva, held a meeting to discuss plans for simplifying the visa issuance process and enhancing the operational efficiency of consular services abroad. This meeting took place on Wednesday, August 7th.

Maria Angelieva highlighted ongoing negotiations with the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance aimed at securing additional funding. This funding is intended to hire more consular staff to accommodate the increasing demand for visas, particularly in strategic locations like Delhi, Istanbul, Edirne, Bursa, Doha, Jakarta, Tashkent, Dubai, Cairo, and Riyadh. These locations have been identified as high-priority due to the large volume of applications for both tourist and work visas they receive.

The new visa system

Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism Miloshev and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelieva also discussed the temporary suspension of visa issuance from August 9 to August 18.

The suspension comes following the implementation of the new version of the National Visa Information System (NVIS) that will be introduced during that period.

Minister Miloshev explained that the measure is part of the Schengen integration process.

“We have made it possible to accept applications for the issuance of temporary passports in urgent cases and to verify powers of attorney and declarations in urgent and humanitarian cases, for example, force majeure, natural disasters, urgent travel related to illness or death of a loved one family member and cases of travel of minor children” - Maria Angelieva, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, added.

Simplification of issuing visas to Turkish citizens

Bulgarian Tourism Minister Evtim Miloshev also commented on the actions of the Greek authorities and the “flexible options” they have introduced for Turkish tourists. Bulgaria, as the government states, plans to simplify visa procedures for Turkish citizens in the future.

We remind you that in April this year, Greece introduced an express visa scheme, allowing Turkish citizens to obtain visas on arrival. So far, 35,000 Turkish tourists have arrived in Greece under this scheme.
