Cyprus Has Allowed Students From Third Countries to Work in Nine Sectors of the Economy

What happened? Students in Cyprus who are citizens of third countries will be able to work in nine sectors of the economy under the expanded criteria aimed at reducing the shortage of labor.

Details. The new decree was published in the official sources on March 11. It applies to students who were in Cyprus on January 31, 2022, and are citizens of third countries. They will have the right to work in nine sectors of the economy, provided that they conclude an employment contract with a specific employer.

Economic sectors and permitted jobs:

  • Trade and repair (porters for wholesale business, workers at gas stations and car washes);
  • Healthcare (nursing home nurses);
  • House cleaning;
  • Processing (workers of bakeries, feed mills);
  • Agriculture-animal husbandry-fishing;
  • Catering (food distributors, kitchen assistants, cleaners, waiters);
  • Hotel business (kitchen assistants, cleaners, maids, waiters, reception staff, bartenders);
  • Restaurants and entertainment establishments (kitchen assistants, cleaners, waiters, bar staff);
  • Other activities (building cleaners, sewer workers, distributors of advertising booklets).
