Digital Nomads are Leaving Portugal En Masse

  • 20
They were influenced by the decision of the authorities to cancel the golden visa program.

According to local media reports, the announcement of the end of the Golden Visa caused expats in Portugal to fear about future restrictions at the border and led to remote workers searching for other places to move.

Details. Although the Golden Visa program in Portugal is one of the most popular programs for digital nomads, other countries have started offering similar programs, which can sometimes be even more attractive. Since Portugal announces the end of the Golden Visa program, applicants are sent to other countries such as Dubai, Turkey, Singapore, Germany, as well as Hong Kong.

On the other hand, Antonio Costa, the Prime Minister of Portugal, earlier announced his government's decision to focus on digital nomads and make the country more friendly to such people.

Quote. "We have an open program, so we can be a factor in finding these digital nomads, as we have a program to attract foreign direct investment. Every company making major strategic investments in Portugal also does so on a contractual basis. And, fortunately, Portugal is becoming more and more attractive," the Prime Minister said.
