What happened? Analysts believe that mortgage interest rates in the Czech Republic will jump to 6% next year. This is a record figure for the last five years and corresponds to the level of 2006. However, at that time, real estate was at least twice as cheap as at the moment.

Problems. The most painful rise to 6% will be for customers who have taken out a loan with a rate of 2% or lower and whose fixing period expires. For them, the monthly loan payment will increase by an average of 1,000 kronor (€40).
In addition to mortgages, in the new year, the owners of Czech housing will see an increase in gas and electricity prices.
Experts believe that some potential mortgage applicants may eventually prefer renting a home to buying.
