Luxury Real Estate in the US are in Unprecedented Demand

Property sales of objects worth more than $50 million are already ahead of 2020 and previous years.
In the four months to the end of April 2021, American owners of luxury properties worth $50 million or more have already sold 30 properties, and local buyers have purchased eight, according to the online real estate portal Redfin. FDuring the whole 2020, their number was 60 and 16, respectively, during 2019 - 56 and 14, according to the publication Mansion Global.
Daryl Fairweather, the chief economist at Redfin, says that the market for super-elite homes has become even stronger in the past year. "After the recent booming stock market success, the wealthiest Americans have become richer, which has led to additional capital and limited spending opportunities during the pandemic. And the real estate market, despite various restrictions, remained open for business, and reshuffling real estate portfolios became a top priority. Especially for the ultra-high class".
Ms Fairweather says that savings, the desire for comfort and the easing of uncertainty around the pandemic have helped to boost the demand for high-end housing this year.
There are currently 20 properties for sale in and around Los Angeles for at least $50 million, with 16 of them coming on the market this year. For comparison: in New York City, the corresponding figures are 15 and 5.
In South Florida, five single-family homes and one private island complex are currently on sale in this price category. Three offers have been put on the market this year. Experts note that owners are seeking to sell their mega-expensive properties now, driven by demand from buyers.
Experts believe that the popularity of the southern states for buying expensive real estate is related to priority changes. More and more people work remotely and want to be in a comfortable environment away from noise. A more favorable tax rate also plays a role when buying luxury housing.
