Montenegro is Going to Attract Digital Nomads

  • 21
The government has opened a public debate on the relevant program.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Digital Society and Mass Media, headed by Tamara Srzentić, has opened a public debate on the draft program for attracting digital nomads until 2025, which includes an action plan for the next year.

According to the document, €110,000 will be allocated from the state budget for the implementation of measures to attract remote workers in 2022. It is planned that 250 digital nomads will live in Montenegro in 2023, who will have tax benefits and will have the right to regulate their status with the help of electronic services. And two years later, the authors of the document expect that there will be about 1,000 digital nomads in Montenegro.

Of the planned €110,000 for the implementation of the plan next year, most of the funds (€60,000) will go to the creation of a special website in English designed for digital nomads. Another €15,000 will be allocated for the creation of an electronic service.

A month ago, Srzentić announced that in cooperation with other ministries (in the private, civil and academic sectors) she would create an environmental improvement program so that digital nomads could stay in Montenegro as long as possible, contributing to the overall increase in economic activity in the country.

"They earn money in their countries by working on the Internet, and spend the money earned in the host country, so we want Montenegro to become a globally attractive place for all of them," Srzentić has said.

The ambitious plan is based on numerous foreign studies, according to which by 2035 up to a billion people in the world will work remotely.
