Rental Housing is Becoming More Expensive in Portugal

In the third quarter of 2022, rents in Portugal increased by 4.5% on a quarterly basis.

According to Idealista, rents in Portugal increased by 4.5% on a quarterly basis and reached €11.8 per sq.m per month in the third quarter of 2022.

Cities. Rental housing has risen in price in nine district centers in the period from July to September 2022. Coimbra topped the list, showing a 10% increase in housing rents in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.

Among the cities where rental housing has become more expensive are Lisbon (+8.1%), Porto (+7.6%), Braga (+6.7%), Funchal (+5.6%), Setubal (+3.4%), Aveiro (+3.3%), Santaren (+2.9%) and Faro (+2.8%). Rents for housing decreased only in two regional capitals: Viseu (-3.5%) and Leiria (-1.1%).

Rating. Lisbon remains the city with the most expensive rental housing: €15.7 per sq.m. per month. Porto (€12.3) and Funchal (€11.0) occupy the second and third places respectively. This is followed by Faro (€9.3), Setubal (€8,9), Aveiro (€8,7) and Coimbra (€8,1).
