The Golden Visa of Sri Lanka is Real

The Government of Sri Lanka has approved the Golden Visa Program for the following categories of foreigners:

• Individual investors will deposit at least $100,000 to a bank account in Sri Lanka. They will be eligible for a 10-year visa;
• CEOs and their dependents invest at least $75,000 in condominiums in Sri Lanka. They will be eligible for a visa for a period of five to 10 years;
• Foreign citizens over 60 years of age with a monthly income of at least $20,000. They will be eligible for a 10-year visa.

Investors. Investors can apply online for a 10-year visa after opening a Golden Paradise bank account and depositing at least $100,000 to a local commercial bank licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). Investors can withdraw funds from the deposit after a year but have to maintain at least $50,000 until the end of their visa.

CEOs. Directors of companies and their dependents will be eligible for a visa up to 10 years if they invest at least $75,000 in condominiums in Sri Lanka.

Retirees. Foreign citizens over the age of 60 with a monthly income of at least $20,000 will be eligible to apply for a 10-year visa.

Context. The new visa program is in line with the Government's goal of supporting the local economy by attracting foreign investment and promoting foreign exchange in Sri Lanka. In October 2021, visas for "digital nomads" and tourist visas with extended validity were also introduced.
