  • 3
Analysts at IWG have conducted a comparative analysis of 30 popular cities, creating a ranking based on their suitability for a "workation"— a blend of work and vacation.

The experts assessed these locations rating them on a scale of 10 in the following categories:

  • Climate
  • Culture
  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Food
  • Subsistence (cost of a coffee)
  • Happiness
  • Broadband speed
  • Sustainability
  • Availability of flexible workspaces

Top 10 cities for a workcation, according to IWG:

  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Beijing, China
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • New York, USA
  • Singapore
  • Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Los Angeles, USA
  • Milan, Italy

Why is Budapest the leader of the rating?

Budapest topped this year’s list due to high scores in the accommodation (9.5/10), transport (9.5/10), sustainability (8.5/10) and broadband speed (8/10) categories.

By the way, Hungary has a digital nomad visa ("white card") - with a minimum income threshold of €3,000 per month. The residence permit is valid for 12 months, with the possibility of a single extension.

  • A full list of documents and requirements for applicants for a Hungarian digital nomad visa is on the official website.
  • And if you are considering obtaining a Hungarian residence permit for a longer period, take a closer look at the updated "guest investor" program. In fact, this is a "golden visa" for 10 years with an extension for a second term in exchange for an investment (including the purchase of real estate).
