Turkey Slowly Opens Up

  • 15
Turkish President Erdogan has announced the lifting of some anti-COVID restrictions from March 2, 2021.

The Turkish authorities divided the whole of Turkey into risk zones, each of which was assigned its own color: "blue" (the lowest level of risk), "yellow", "orange" and "red" (the highest level of risk). It is assumed that every two weeks the colors of these zones will be reviewed, writes ATOR.

As of March 1, the most popular Turkish provinces among tourists were in the following color zones:

  • Istanbul, Antalya, Muula, Izmir were in the orange zone,
  • Bursa, Denizli (where Pamukkale is located), Kayseri, Kars and Erzurum (ski resorts) – in the yellow zone,
  • the provinces of Mardin, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa – in the blue, the safest, zone.

What does it mean? According to the decision taken at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, restaurants, cafes and other public catering establishments will be opened in the blue, yellow and orange zones. Recall that previously they could only work with takeaway and delivery. Full-time guest service is now allowed, though with some restrictions. These establishments will be able to work only from 07: 00 to 19: 00, when no more than 50% of the hall is filled.

In the tourist provinces of Bursa, Dengizli, Kayseri, Kars and Erzurum, Mardin, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, the round-the-clock curfew on weekends is completely lifted. In Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and Muul, the lockdown is still maintained only on Sundays. At the same time, food stores and markets continue to operate.

However, the night curfew (from 21:00 to 05:00) is still maintained in all zones. We remind you that lockdowns and curfews do not apply to tourists.

Swimming pools, cinemas, stadiums and other similar facilities will open in the blue and yellow zones. In the same zones, restrictions on the movement of people over 65 years of age are lifted. Meetings and events of up to 300 people were allowed in the blue, yellow and orange zones.
