The Prices on Utilities in Spain

When you have a flat in Spain, you better be ready for the utility bill. How much will you pay for electricity? Do you really need heating or it's cheaper to suffer a little? Let's find out.

Payment for condominium (comunidad)

Residents of apartments with a shared area (pool, garden, secure parking, shared stairwell, basement, courtyard) have to pay €300-500 per year for the maintenance of the territory. For individual homes this amount depends on urbanization (garbage collection, security, cleaning of the surrounding area, road lighting). Usually, it takes from €500 to €1500 per year. In elite complexes with developed infrastructure (tennis courts, sauna, gym, restaurant, swimming pool) the annual fee may be several times higher.

A weekly gardener's job will cost the owner of an individual home €80-200 per month (depending on the size of the land plot), cleaning the pool (once a week) – €50-120 per month; cleaning the house – €7-10 per hour.

Electricity

The cost of electricity depends on the power supply company. The table below shows the rates.

A family of three consumes approximately 300 kW/h.

In addition, you need to pay about €15 per month for maintenance of the electrical network.

Spain

Water supply

The cost of 1 cubic meter of water is on average €0.5. a Family of two or three people consumes about 15 cubic meters of water per month.

Gas

Central gas supply is available in the Central and Northern regions of Spain. In the South of Spain and on the East coast, the supply of natural gas has only recently begun. Depending on the composition of the family and the activity of gas use per person in monetary terms, central gas will cost €30 euros per month.

A gas cylinder costs €17-30. It is enough for about a month of active usage.

Heating

Central heating is not available in modernt apartments. According to the new building code, modern Spanish apartments have a split-air conditioning system and energy-saving systems.

Internet, TV, phone

The telephone service in Spain costs €9.90 per month. The payment includes 5000 minutes of conversation within the country on landlines and 60 minutes on mobile phones. Exceeding the limit is charged at the rate of €0.11 per minute.
The cost of unlimited Internet access in Spain depends on the connection speed. Connection to the Internet at 10 Mbit/sec costs €12 per month, and at a speed of 30 Mbit/sec it costs €43 per month.
Satellite TV costs about €120 per year.

Property insurance

Property insurance is not mandatory, if your property is not purchased with a mortgage loan.

The amount of insurance varies. The minimum amount starts from €80. And the most comprehensive insurance, including possible damage caused by third parties, costs €460 per year.
