The best cities in the world to live in 2023 revealed

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) published the annual ranking of the livable cities in the world.

What has happened? EIU - the world leader in global business intelligence & market insights – has presented the latest annual  Global Liveability Index 2023 describing the most livable cities in the world.

How did they count? The EIU has ranked 173 cities across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

TOP 10 most livable cities in the world 2023:

  • Vienna, Austria
  • Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Vancouver, Canada
  • Zurich, Switzerland
  • Calgary, Canada
  • Geneva, Switzerland
  • Toronto, Canada
  • Osaka, Japan

Key facts:

  • Kyiv has appeared in the ranking again (it was not in the list last year), it took 165-th line.
  • Damascus (Syria), Tripoli (Libya) and Algiers (Algeria) turned out to be the main outsiders of the rating, they are recognized as the least livable cities.
  • Wellington (New Zealand) has moved 35 positions upwards this year to 23rd. It was the most significant escalating leap among any other cities in the world. At the same time, Edinburgh (UK) lost 23 spots and landed on the 58-th position on the list. It was the biggest drop in the ranking.
