There is a mixed forest growing on the site and several hundred meters from it to the nearest lakes: to Lake Ryakjarv – 390 meters, to Lake Liivjarv – 375 meters, to Lake Kastyarv – 470 meters. A forest road leads to the first two lakes.

The Kurtna Lake system is the largest in Estonia and is located in the northern part of the Iizaku–Illuka-Kurtna relief form of glacial origin. On the territory of almost 30. there are about 40 lakes of various sizes and depths. Thanks to numerous roads, forest paths and places for swimming, the Kurtna lakes have become an ideal place for hiking and recreation, a traditional place for picking berries and mushrooms. In winter, Kurtna is very popular among residents and guests of the county with its illuminated ski and toboggan trails.
