Kipseli is one of the central districts of the capital, occupies most of the municipality of Athens, and its population is about 65,000 people. It is divided into the following areas:
• Ano Kipseli
• Kipsels
• Nea Kipseli
Kipseli's urban development began in the 1930s with the construction of family homes and the first modern apartment buildings in Athens, whose design was influenced by international trends such as modernism, Bauhaus and Art Deco. The large green areas adjacent to it, such as Pedion Areos Street and Phokionos Negri Street, have made Kipseli a prestigious area with many apartment buildings built before the 1960s for the middle and upper class.
As part of the implementation of the Athens - Attica 2014 plan, in 2010, massive demolition of illegally erected buildings, clearing of the territory and landscaping began in the Kipseli quarter. Some areas remained commercial, for example, the streets of Patission and Phokionos Negri with many shops, and Kipseli is still famous for its numerous theaters.
The area is served by many bus routes, and in the coming decades it is planned to build the 4th line of the Athens metro with several stations in Kipseli.
