In particular, the earning limit for the Blue Card will be reduced.

What has happened? The German authorities have said they are moving forward with the plan to ease some immigration measures to make it easier for foreign skilled workers to move to the country for work purposes.

Background. Most recently, the German government announced that it was relaxing some of its rules, highlighting that the earning limit for obtaining a Blue Card would be lowered.

Moreover, the government noted that the authorities are also introducing an opportunity card with a points system, and are also easing the rules for those with professional experience and for those with higher education.

Context. There is currently a shortage of skilled workers in many regions and sectors in Germany. Data shows that Germany was in need of about 1.98 million workers at the end of 2022.

Taking this into account, the German government wants to increase the participation of women and older people in the labor market and attract more qualified workers from other countries.

How will it look like? As the government explains, in the future, all foreigners who have a degree will be able to pursue any qualified job.

At the same time, all foreigners with at least two years of work experience in a particular field will be able to immigrate as a worker to Germany. The professional qualifications of foreigners will also no longer have to be recognized in Germany, meaning that the procedures will be shorter.
