The Maltese authorities have introduced a special residence permit for digital nomads (Nomad Residence Permit, NRP), which will allow third-country citizens to legally live in the island state without the need to obtain special visas and work permits, writes Investment Migration Insider.
The new scheme targets remote employees of companies located outside of Malta, as well as those who own businesses registered abroad, and freelancers who have clients in other countries of the world. Since Europeans already have the opportunity to live and move freely in Malta, the program is intended only for third-country citizens.
The residence permit for digital nomads will be issued for one year with the possibility of extension. You will need to pay an administrative fee of €300 for application.

According to the head of the Agency for Residence in Malta (which manages the country's investment program), Charles Mizzi, the residence permit program for digital nomads was prepared for several months. And for its development, the government has attracted more than 1,000 remote workers who already live on the island.
