Albania Has Approved the Right of Foreigners to Obtain a Residence Permit by Real Estate Purchase

The package of amendments No. 79/2021 to the text of the law "On Foreigners" has been published on the website of the Parliament of the Republic of Albania. It regulates the regime of entry, stay, employment and departure of foreign citizens.

Article 84 states that foreigners can obtain an Albanian residence permit based on the purchase of real estate in Albania.

Requirements:

• A temporary residence permit based on the use and disposal of real estate in Albania may be issued to a foreigner in accordance with this law, provided that the candidate confirms the ownership of the property. The beneficiary must keep the relevant asset in the property for the entire period of validity of the residence permit.
• The State agency responsible for border and immigration control grants a foreigner a "residence permit based on the use of real estate owned by the applicant" for up to one year for the first time with the possibility of annual renewal, if the foreigner continues to meet the criteria established by law.
• A residence permit can be issued to a foreigner who is a co-owner of half the area of real estate.
