The central bank has published the sector statistics for the first quarter of 2024.
What has happened
Greek tourism is experiencing a surge in foreign arrivals, showing a 24.5% increase in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
According to data from the Bank of Greece:
The number of foreign arrivals increased by nearly 25%.
Tourism revenue reached €942 million in the first quarter, which is 28.2% higher than in the same period in 2023.
Interesting Facts
A significant portion of this growth was driven by tourists opting for short-term rentals.
Domestic tourism accounted for a larger share of both arrivals and overnight stays in total accommodations, contributing 58.3% and 55.1%, respectively.
Companies active in the sector of accommodation reported a 13.4% turnover increase compared to last year in the first quarter of the year.
The largest contribution to the total turnover in accommodation was recorded on the island of Kos, while the lowest was in the Thessaloniki region.
All these figures indicate a robust recovery of Greek tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic.
