The Black Sea region of Adjara in Georgia received $106 million of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first nine months of 2022, the head of the government of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze said in a report on the work of his office at the end of the year.
Local media "Interpressnews" quotes Rizhvadze, noting that during the year the largest share of FDI fell on the real estate sector, transport, and processing industry.
Rizhvadze also said that the regional government pays "great attention" to the development of tourist infrastructure, and announced that a new landscape park has been approved for the Machakhela area, 30 km from the regional center of Batumi, to promote tourism development in the region.
"We continue to build tourist infrastructure, which will ultimately further strengthen the importance of the protected area of Machakhela both from a tourist and economic point of view," he said.
"We will build six new kindergartens in Batumi. We are actively continuing work on the Emergency Homes program, and 10 new residential buildings will be built in this direction so that about 1,000 families currently in emergency conditions can safely continue their lives," Rizhvadze said.
