It's Always Sunny in... Europe!

Analysts of the Holidu has compiled a rating of cities with guaranteed sunny days and the maximum portion of vitamin D! Using data from the World Weather Online service, they have calculated the average number of hours of sunshine per month and created a guide for resort real estate buyers.

10. Palermo, Italy

(340 hours of sun per month)

Palermo

The capital of Sicily and one of the warmest cities in Europe. Summers last until the beginning of December. Palermo is a cultural melting pot: architectural styles, echoes of different cultures, traditions and religions are mixed on the streets. 

The beaches of Terrazini and Mondello are considered the most popular among tourists and the local population. They are marked with blue flags for the cleanliness and quality of the infrastructure.

Real Estate

At the beginning of the summer season of 2022, a square meter of residential property costs €1,240 on average. Inexpensive offers of small-sized apartments in the secondary market worth €55,000-65,000.3

9. Granada, Spain

Granada

The city is part of the autonomous community of Andalusia, located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

In Granada, you can stroll through the narrow streets of the ancient residential quarter of the Albaysin Moors and see one of the most incredible sunsets in the world in front of the Alhambra architectural ensemble, which is the highest achievement of Moorish architects in Western Europe.

A square meter in Granada costs an average of €1,897 in June 2022.2

8. Las Palmas, Spain

We are heading to the Canary Islands. Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria and the largest city of the archipelago.

The city has a lot of boutiques, restaurants, concert halls, nightclubs, as well as historical buildings of the XV century.

The busiest ports in the world – Puerto de la Luz. Playa de Las Canteras (which is not far away) is the main city beach, along which there is a promenade with a length of more than 3 km.

7. Nice, France

Nice

The city is located between Marseille and Genoa, 993 km from Paris and 30 km from Cannes.Basically, it is created for luxury living. The economic center of the Cote d'Azur, where tourism and business meet.

The so-called 'golden square' of Nice is located near the coast. The famous Promenade des Anglais, seven miles long, which is dotted with restaurants, beach clubs and shops, originates in the Cor de Ville area.

In general, there are 37 beaches in Nice, which stretch from the airport to the very center of the city. 22 beaches are free (municipal). All are covered with pebbles, so do not forget about special shoes.

Housing prices in paradise are biting. In May 2022, the most affordable square meter in Nice cost €3,306, the average price was €8,112, and the maximum was €25,815.5

6. Valencia, Spain

Valencia

Located on the southeastern coast of Spain, the third most populous city in the country is a major scientific and cultural center. There are four universities, about 50 museums, and there is also the famous "City of Arts and Sciences".

There is an excellent infrastructure here: many shops, entertainment centers, cafes, restaurants and spa centers.

For those who prefer active recreation, it is better to go north of the city to La Malvarossa, Cabanas, Playa las Arenas. All these beaches are suitable for water sports.

There are more secluded beaches of Pineda, Recat, La Devesa and El Saler, which are suitable for a relaxing holiday with children.

At the beginning of the summer of 2022, the average price per square meter of housing in Valencia is €2,121, and the average offer price is €320,556.2

5. Messina, Italy

Messina

The third largest city in Sicily. It is located on the shore of the Strait of Messina, which separates the island from mainland Italy. At the beginning of the XX century, Messina was almost completely destroyed by a tsunami caused by an earthquake. After that, the city had to be completely rebuilt.

The port of Messina is an important transport hub, including receiving cruise liners and cargo ships. For this reason, the beaches are located at some distance from the city.

In May 2022, the cost per square meter of housing in Messina ranged from €690 to € 1,461. A ready-made apartment of about 50 sq. m. near the city center can be found for about €100,000. Slightly more spacious apartments away from the center (85 sq. m. m) with a sea view will cost about €125,000.3

4. Malaga, Spain

Malaga

The port city is located in the center of a cozy bay surrounded by mountain ranges. This is one of the oldest settlements in Europe. But most importantly, Malaga is a famous resort. Sandy beaches are concentrated in the central and western parts, but there are many rocky areas in the eastern part.

The average price per square meter of housing in the center of Malaga is €3,354.2

3. Murcia, Spain

Murcia

The capital of the agricultural region of the same name in the south-east of Spain. Murcia is a balance between a bustling metropolis and a province, a university city with a rich history.

And it is also located 30 km from the coastal strip of the Costa Calida, which is called the "red-hot frying pan of Spain" because of the unique microclimate with high temperatures and warm sea almost all year round.

The average price per square meter of housing in Murcia today is €1,270. The average price of the property in June 2022 is €214,619.2

2. Catania, Italy

Catania

The ancient port city is located on the eastern coast of the island of Sicily, at the foot of the largest active European volcano Etna. It is famous for historical monuments, and the old town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – fascinates with Baroque buildings. Lovers of cultural recreation will not be bored here.

There are many beaches around the city, most of them are sandy and rocky. The most popular is La Playa in the southern part of the city.

In May 2022, the cost per square meter of housing in Catania ranged from €749 to €1,704. Three-bedroom apartments on the secondary market cost from €70,000.4

1. Alicante, Spain

Alicante

The Spanish city of Alicante as part of the autonomous community of Valencia has broken all records and is officially recognized as the sunniest city in Europe. The sun shines here on average 349 hours a month!

As you probably know, the Costa Blanca coast is rich with golden sand beaches. Even the city beach of Alicante has been awarded the blue flag of the European Union.

The average price per square meter in Alicante is €1,958. 2
