What happened? On February 7, 2022, a decree regulating the issuance of temporary visas and residence permits for immigrants who do not have labor relations in Brazil, whose professional activities can be carried out remotely, appeared in the official newspaper of Brazil.
Decree No. 45 of the CNIG (National Immigration Council), a collegial body that is part of the basic structure of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, introduces a temporary visa and residence permit for foreigners working in foreign companies and wishing to live in Brazil, working remotely.
Requirements. The new visa is valid for one year and can be extended. A foreigner must prove a connection with a company outside Brazil and have a minimum monthly income of $1,500 or at least $18,000 in a bank account. The resolution includes a sample application form for obtaining a residence permit.
Quote. The resolution was positively received by many experts. Thus, Fragomen's partner in Brazil, the oldest immigration company Diana Quintas, believes that this type of visa is a global trend and puts Brazil in a highly competitive position.
"The big advantage of our visa compared to other countries is that the required income is below average. This initiative should attract many foreigners who will boost the local economy and create new opportunities for business and services," the company said.
