Favourite Countries of Foreign Families

  • 35
The list is led by the North of Europe, which is not a surprise for anybody. Some countries turned out to be more predictable, then the others. And some positions turned out to be a little upsetting.

The Expat Isider 2019 is a serious annual research about expats experience.  One of the ratings is dedicated to the attitude towards families and their well-being abroad. The final list for 2019 contains 15 different countries. The choice is based on the opinions of expats and their experience, as well as other indicators, such as education and childcare.

Always the Best

Finland is on the first place as it always is. Al that due to great policies towards children’s safety and health, especially in comparison with other countries. Less than 20% of expats think that the country is not safe enough for their kids.

Another thing that pleases parents so much is education. It is pretty affordable for more than 50% of the respondents. And the quality is considered to be at a great level for more than 60% of questioned parents.
All this factors made Finland take the first position for 4th year in a row.

Stable Neighbours

Sweden has a noticeable progress in comparison to a previous year. In 2018 this country closed the top-5, whereas last year it took the proud second place. The financial criteria made it so high: the support from the government is really helpful even for expats families, and childcare is affordable for most.

Apparently, these factors are pretty important, because according the the criteria of family well-being Sweden does not perform great. And even in the friendly environment for children it took a 23rd place. On the other hand, the financial support is a bigger necessity than other people being friendly your child.

Taking Care of Education

The top-3 is closed by Belgium, which is another country with a generally good reputation. And it’s a good jump in a rating from the 10th place in 2018. Parents are very pleased with the level of education and the fact that it’s very affordable.

Also, more than 90% of foreigners are glad with children’s healthcare. Availability of activities for kids is also satisfying for most of the respondents.

A Surprising Fall

Austria took 15th place in the list and shows a very serious decrease. About 50% of parents are fine with family policies and child treatment in the country, the number of people satisfied with childcare dropped from 85% to 63%. The quality of education is now considered to be less satisfying than in previous years.

Presumably, the government made several changes in this field recently. Austria does not perform well in the prices on education, and single motherhood is now less under protection than before according to expats.

Not a Tragic Drop

Although, Czechia lost some percentage in categories of family well-being and friendly attitude to the children, the majority of respondents (more than 80% each) are still very glad with the level of both.

Overall, the country improved a little. People are generally happy with the amount of childcare options and accessibility of them.

The Final Three

Three countries stand on the very last positions of the raiting, because of poor accessibility of the education, it’s price and overall scores in other countries. Turkey is a final country in the list and takes this place almost every year. Brazil is a little higher, but still a stable companion of the final positions. Finally, Chile used to perform much better, but got lower with years.
